Why is Sprite called 雪碧 in Chinese?
Brands, when introducing their products into China, usually want to have a Chinese name for their products, one that will be both easy to remember and be evocative for the Chinese. A metaphoric translation of the product's name is often picked, as is the case here with 雪碧, which was chosen as the Chinese name for Sprite.
The character 雪 on its own means snow, and 碧 blue, green jade. They were chosen to imply that the soft drink Sprite is like snow and blue jade, i.e. cold and sparkling.
